“I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself.”
Colossians 2:2 NLT
The anticipation of Christmas draws near and we all look forward to cherished time with loved ones. The gifts we buy pale in comparison with the thought of moments we will savor and treasure and yet sometimes our expectations can ruin the day, if we are not careful.
Cease Striving
A legacy cannot be trumped up in a moment. And no amount of work can create the special vibe that a well formed legacy brings. Sometimes we can get lost in the details. All of our striving can detract from just being. Preparations can help to cultivate our family legacy, but preparations can easily become the focus instead of those around us.
Preparing our Hearts
When our hearts are at peace in God’s presence, then we aren’t prone to anxiety and busyness that rob us of the most important thing in front of us. And when outward preparations for a special holiday can be focused on drawing near to God, God takes care of knitting our hearts together and forms a legacy better than we ever could imagine.
Choose Joy
Whether things go the way we imagined or not, we can choose joy right then. Remembering that just being with the people we love—their imperfections and ours—forms the messy legacy that brings God glory. In all of our weaknesses, He is our strength. He is our legacy.
Merry Christmas to all! May God grant you a legacy in Him that never fades and may those around you witness His favor in your life, all for His glory!
