Taking care of business is not just for the here and now. It is also not just about monetary profit today and tomorrow. Our business can be an engine of blessing that impacts our team, those we serve, and those yet to be a part of the business.
A Holy Calling
Ephesians 2:10
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
The day in, day out grind is not just about making ends meet or success in this world. Our work is holy. God created us to work and when we form companies and businesses for the glory of God, the significance of what we do is eternal.
A Ministry
Psalm 112:5
“It is well with the man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice.”
How we conduct our business matters and might determine the success and longevity of our work. Operating our business with integrity honors God and opens the doorway for God to bless us. Businesses have an opportunity to minister to others by being generous. And business owners can create an environment in their business that cares for their employees and spurs their employees to worship God.
A Gift
Exodus 35:5
“He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, or by a weaver—by any sort of workman or skilled designer.”
Our businesses are a gift from God, tailored to His gifting in us. But our business is not about us and our gratification. The legacy of our work and business will not endure if it is about us. God equips us with skills and calls us to a work designed for our gifts to serve His people and glorify Himself. Expressing His glory through our work might reach people who never would have entered a church, but as they witness the presence of God in our business, their souls are reached.
A Work Beyond the Here and Now
Psalm 90:17
“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us– yes, establish the work of our hands.”
Our work has significance. The legacy of our business lasts when we do our work in a way that honors God. As we plan our work, God establishes the work of our hands when our foundation is on His principles. As you prepare your business for the transition of your departure, you don’t have to go it alone.
